How to vote
Aug. 18 is the finish line.
There is no runoff and no November rematch. Whoever wins the August 18 primary represents Polk County Commission District 2 for the next four years. Here is how to make sure you are in it.
First question
Yes. You can vote in this race, whatever your party.
Every candidate for this seat is a Republican, and the winner has no opponent in November. Under Florida’s universal primary rule, that opens the contest to every registered Polk County voter. Republican, Democrat, or no party affiliation.
Polk County commissioners are elected countywide, so you do not have to live in District 2 to vote in this race. If you are registered in Polk County and your registration is current, it is on your ballot. Confirm your registration and pull up your own sample ballot with the Supervisor of Elections. They are the only official source.

Must be received by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. A postmark is not enough.
Election day

Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Already have a vote-by-mail ballot? It has to be in the Supervisor of Elections’ hands by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. A postmark does not count. Voted mail ballots can be dropped at any early voting site during early voting hours, or at Election Headquarters in Bartow or the Operations Center in Winter Haven on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Return postage is paid. The request deadline for a mail ballot has passed.
Early voting
Ten locations, any one of them.
During early voting, any voter registered in Polk County may vote at any early voting site in the county. On election day itself you have to go to your own assigned precinct.
